Barry’s Review: Blue Hill is a 27-hole town course, but prices are for 18 holes (Golfers typically play two of the nine-hole courses). It is a fun, but challenging course, with plenty of doglegs, elevation changes, and water hazards. It is kept in good shape, but can be expensive for out-of-towners. The 27 holes prevent golfers from getting bored with the course.

Signature Holes: Woodlands #8, 166-yard par 3, straight downhill, with a nice view of the reservoir and surrounding area from the tee box.

Prices: Non-resident Weekdays $44 ($27 after 4 PM), Weekends $53 ($32 after 4 PM)

Barry’s Review: This par three course is a great course to play when you are first learning the game. There are several interesting holes with plenty of elevation changes, that even an expert will find challenging. The downside is that you have to hit off of mats, instead of grass tee boxes. Also the greens are very slow and not always in great shape, but the prices are fair.

Signature Hole: #2, 150-yards, A short par 3 down a steep hill.

Prices: Weekdays $16, Weekends $18

Barry’s Review: Patriots Hills is a modern course that opened a few years ago and is in fantastic shape. It is full of severe elevation changes and magnificent views of the surrounding area, including the Hudson River. Because of the numerous hills it is necessary to take a cart. The greens fees can get expensive on weekends and holidays ($90 for non-residents), but they offer discounts for Stony Point residents and Rockland County residents. The best time to go is weekdays after 4:00 PM when you can play for $25 to $45 depending on your residency. All prices include a cart, and it’s rare to be able to play a golf course as nice as this for as little as $25.

Signature Hole: #14, “Cheesecock”, 568 yard par 5. A long par 5 off an elevated tee box, with a nice view of the Palisades Parkway, leading to an elevated green protected by a swamp and bunkers.

Prices: Weekends: $45-90 ($30-70 after 4pm), Weekdays: $38-70 ($25-45 after 4pm)

Barry’s Review: Rockland Lake is a state-owned course, but they don’t offer any discounts for NY state residents. The prices are still fair, ranging from $18 to $32 depending on when you play. It is a challenging course, in decent shape for a public course. There are a lot of hills and although doable, it can be difficult to walk all eighteen holes. Because of the low prices, it can get very crowded on the weekends, and as a result play is slow. I would recommend going during the week if you can.

Signature Holes: #7, 553-yard par 5: A long hole with a late dogleg to an elevated green. #16, 171-yard par 3: A downhill par 3 with a pond to the front-left of the green.

Prices: Weekdays $27, Weekends $32
